Laptop project

Alright, so friend of mine popped up during his week off from this university of applied science or something (looked up translation from google), and brough his laptop for me to make custom paintjob for it. Alright. Though, most of the time we spent gaming or brainstorming on what was going to be painted on it.... In the end we decided on some cool nebulas and custom Solforce logo from Sword of the Stars game.

So, here's images of the progress:

First, the laptop before anything was done it...
Next, cleaning it up a bit as well taping the areas that do not need painting. The HP logo was rather challenging to cover properly...
Next stage, adding base paint, half-matte black. It already looks different from the aluminium grey.
Black and white shaping of nebulae and stars. Had never airbrushed nebula before so it was a bit of challenge to figure out how to do it properly. Ended up ripping up pieces of paper and using the ripped edges as stencils of sorts. Seemed to work rather nicely. Also used pencil with the airbrush to splatter around the stars.
Finally getting to add color... Started with red, then added bit of violet, and then blue for the keyboard. On the lid though, started with red, added white, then orange, more white, yellow, again bit of white and finished the other side with blue.
Also adding the custom Solforce logo after the paint dried enough.
Final stages of the painting, adding varnish, sandpapering it a bit, adding more, more sandpapering... You know the drill. Still, it was worth it since the surface became nice and smooth to touch as well quite shiny.
And here, finally, the whole laptop completely painted, varnished, and assembled. Behold, it's alive!

Overall, was rather interesting project since I had to figure out and use some new techniques on the spot to make the nebula look as right and realistic as possible. Also first time putting as much effort into the varnishing since it was this time on a surface that would suffer slightly more stress than usual...

Still, rather fun project.

"Throne Room" project finished!

So, been a bit while, but managed to finally finish my first wall airbrushing project. Here's some final progress photos of it:
Here, finished the wall, and started detailing on the flags and banners. Made a stencil to paint the lion on the flags...
Adding some more details and color.
Final finishing touches with wrinkles and couple more details on the flags. After this it was just coating it with lacquer and cleaning up the room. Total time taken for this project was around 30 hours, I think.

Warrior of the Empire

Haven't been able to work on much things lately, but got this one at least. Originally intended to just leave it as sketch, but then got into my head to add colors, paint on it and stuff, sooo it kinda turned into speedpainting of sorts... Took me around 4-5 hours from start to finish.
While I was making this pic, I also recorded the whole process (albeit kinda accidentally at first, until I noticed it later on). I've uploaded the video to my youtube account over here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXhcKshMfug
Did some editing, though not quite good, as there's few places where it pauses for a few seconds or my music player pops up now and then... But at least, managed to compress it from 4-5 hours down to 8-9 minutes and add music. So yay.

Dragon airbrush painting, part 2

Managed to finally finish the painting, so didn't really snap progress photos at this point, with this one exception...
Had fixed up some mistakes here, and started adding colors over the black and whites. Seemed to work, so I continued onwards...
After a few hours of airbrushing, managed to create this as a result. Took me 12 hours in total... But it was worth it, despite some things I'd liked to try fix some more, but ehh... Maybe next one will be better.

Throne Room project continues...

Yup, worked more on the toilet room's wall painting... Here's bit of progress since then:
So, mostly just added the yellow stripes to the flags and banners here. Then left it to dry out completely for the next day...
A bit of experimental painting on one of the panels, to see which way is better to make it look just like marble... or close to it. Just painted lines on it with black, then over them slightly with white...
And here, started painting the black details on everywhere as well bit on the first painted panel... Should be able to put down some whites around next week, then.

More dragons!

Heh, been a bit on the mood of drawing dragons and whatnot lately. Here's couple quickies drawn and painted in SAI:

Dragon airbrush painting

Thought I'd try something else again with my airbrush, so I dug up this old panel from my pile-o'-junk and started painting away...
At first I made a quick sketch with pencil (which is kinda hard to see), and started airbrushing shapes over it...
 Adding details over general shapes...
More details and bit of background...
Finished with background. Next, adding some white...
...and here we go. Still gotta fix it up with some black before starting to add colors, but this is the result so far after about four hours of freehand painting.

Boredom and airbrushing

So, got little bored today, so I tested around some stencils I had made, trying to make some flames and stuff... Didn't quite work out though:
Just means I'll have to practice more. Maybe next time I'll get something better done...
Anyhow, got kinda bored painting flames after a while, so I put in some black color and started figuring out what I really can do with it... After about hour or so, and adding some white for details, I had this.

"Throne Room" project

Something I'm working at work, a sort of "throne room". So, here's few photos of the progress thus far...
Left... the room before any paintworks. Plain white wall. Right... Laid down some base paints, dark blue, though it appears brighter in the photo.

Again left... Started adding details in light blue and white, leaving the 'seams' in dark blue. And on the right, just recently added the red color. More coming around next week. :)

Another hubcap project...

Sooo yeah, started working on another hubcap project now that I have tad bit more time at hand. So, here we go:
Here's basically what they look like (after I cleaned up most of the black grime and oil that had coated them). Suffered a tad bit damage, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with bit of glue and duct tape.
Started by fixing up the two hubcaps at front with some epoxy... Had to leave them to dry for now. Still, the other two were in pretty good condition, so I just started sandpapering them down with some grade 600 watersandpaper stuff... never used it before, so I had to figure it out some. And note to self; buy more of them, single sheet is barely enough for all the projects I have in mind...

Anyway, got two of them about done ready for the primer. Hopefully I get to paint 'em soon, I have some ideas in mind...

Computer case airbrushing... done!

Well, here's the finished case, sort of. Still have to coat it with lacquer second time (I run out of it) and maybe paint the remaining frontal parts if they stand out too much... But anyway, here's photo:
So far, taken me about 9 hours total to paint this. Still, worth the hassle, learned to use masks and bit of new technique while at it.

Computer case airbrushing, part 2

So, here's some progress this morning.
Here's the other side up and done almost...
And finally almost done; assembled it for a moment to take couple photos before adding the coating.

Had just aboug enough coating left in the spraycan to coat it once; have to see if it will be enough or if I need to go out and buy another can... Anyway, will show photos once it has dried enough. :)

Computer case airbrushing...

Sooo, here's couple more photos of the current airbrushing project...
Finished left side panel so far. Just might need some minor fixes on the edges after I get the other sides done, but otherwise just needs coating now.
Work in progess of the other sides. Not much left now. :)

Airbrushing some more...

Okays, so here's some photos of my next project, a computer case I had lying around to test some techniques and first mask on...

Hubcaps done!

Got the hubcaps coated, and it finally dried enough so that I could move them about a bit and take couple photos. So, here you go:
Got another project underway as well, trying out some different techniques as well masking. We'll see soon how it goes.
